Our 2026–27 season, Epic Works, showcases four remarkable large-scale compositions that demonstrate the depth, imagination, and expressive power of the wind band repertoire. Each concert features a major multi-movement work as its centerpiece, while remaining true to the Maryland Winds tradition of offering audiences a rich and diverse musical experience throughout the season.
The season opens with Julie Giroux’s Bookmarks from Japan (Symphony No. 4), a vivid musical journey inspired by six beautifully illustrated bookmarks depicting scenes and landmarks created by renowned Japanese artists. Giroux transforms these visual images into a richly colorful and emotionally compelling symphony that brings these images vividly to life in sound.
Maryland Winds is an ensemble of professional musicians in the greater Baltimore–Washington, DC, area. Most are current or past performers with the premier military bands, in major symphony orchestras, or as freelancers. Many are also active music educators in schools and private studios.
